Dear seamstresses,

Today I’d like to take you on a journey through sewing from the perspective of a sewing instructor.

I love creating new things with you – whether it’s pillows 🛏️, cosmetic pouches 👜, handbags 🧵, backpacks 🎒, hats 🧢, t-shirts 👚 or more challenging skirts 👗.
All the students who come to my courses are incredibly skillful and excited to learn something new. ✨

The Story of One Sewing Student 🧵

Today, I’d like to share the story of one amazing student.
She came to me at the end of January and said: “I want to try sewing. I don’t have a sewing machine, but if I like it, I’ll buy one.”

During our first lesson, I introduced her to the world of sewing: we explored different materials, learned how to use the machine, and together we made her very first pillow – with a zipper, right away!
By the end of the class, she had already ordered her own machine from me, ready for her next lesson. His name is Karel (but it’s actually a Lada, model L30).

During the next class, we made a cosmetic pouch 👜. And because she is truly diligent, she’s already made several at home and keeps learning.
We used our favorite stroller fabric with lavender and ronolin as interfacing.

Sewing captivated her – it’s a wonderful way to relax after work 🧘‍♀️ – so she decided to jump right into making a skirt based on her favorite piece.

A Skirt Full of Challenges 👗

On this skirt, she tried almost everything:
✔️ cutting a large piece,
✔️ side-seam pockets,
✔️ sewing in a zipper by hand (she wanted to learn hand sewing 🪡),
✔️ waistband with interfacing and partially with elastic,
✔️ belt loops,
✔️ and even a lining, because the skirt was a bit see-through.

The skirt is made of yellow rongo and lined with silky (artificial silk). Hats off! 🎩 Starting with silky fabric is really brave for a beginner. And the skirt turned out beautifully! 🌟

Today, we worked together on a new project – a wrap circle skirt. But I’ll tell you about that next time. 😊

Since many beginners come to my classes, we often make:

✨ simple backpacks or drawstring bags 🎒.
